A NEW HOME FOR HORNSEA TOWN COUNCIL

AND A MUCH NEEDED VENUE FOR THE COMMUNITY

The former Hornsea Methodist Church Hall and School Room, which was built in 1875 is enjoying a new lease of life after it was bought by the Town Council in 2009.  The Town Council has funded the restoration by means of a Public Works Loan and although the Council has moved its offices and will be holding its meetings here, it has provided a much needed Community Centre.  The facilities are being used by a wide range of organisations from within the town and surrounding villages and bookings for Charity Fairs, Wedding Receptions, W.I. Meetings, Adult Education, Weight Watchers, Yoga and Dance Classes, and many more have been made well into 2012/2013.

Hornsea Lions have made a considerable financial contribution towards fitting out the kitchen and all the worn out windows were replaced thanks to a grant from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Conservation Area Partnership Scheme.  The Council was also successful in securing a grant of almost £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund which has provided equipment for community use.

From the Town Councils point of view this was a huge project.  However, the response from the public has been absolutely fantastic and their comments have proved the decision to buy the building and refurbish it was spot on.  Was it worth all the hard work? yes most definitely.  This is exactly what Town Councils should be doing for the communities they represent.  This wonderful building has been converted using all the latest energy saving materials and will last another hundred years.
